When your workspace is read-only
What still works and what pauses after a trial or paid plan ends, and how to switch reminders back on.
A workspace becomes read-only when its trial ends without a plan, or when a paid plan ends (for example after you cancel it). Nothing is deleted. Choose a plan and everything switches back on.
How you can tell
- A red banner: “Your trial has ended. Alerts are paused and new documents are not processed. Your data is safe.”
- The top bar shows Trial ended, and Add subscription becomes Choose a plan.
- The Billing page shows Trial ended with Alerts paused.
What still works
- Viewing every subscription, clause, deadline and document.
- Editing subscriptions and confirming clauses.
- Downloading All subscriptions and Clauses & deadlines as CSV files.
- Choosing a plan, and removing team members. Existing members keep their access, but new invites cannot be sent or accepted until you choose a plan.
What pauses
| Feature | While read-only |
|---|---|
| Deadline, trial-end, price and dormant reminders | Not sent (email, Slack and browser notifications) |
| Monthly summary email | Not sent |
| Uploads | Refused: “Your trial has ended. Choose a plan in Billing to add documents.” |
| Forwarded emails | Not stored or read |
| Accountant upload links | Stop working; the page says the link is invalid, expired or revoked |
| Calendar feed | Stays connected but shows no events |
Important: Emails forwarded while the workspace is read-only are not kept, so they are not read later either. After you choose a plan, forward or upload them again.
Switch everything back on
- Open Billing.
- Choose a plan and complete checkout. See Choose or change your plan.
Within an hour, reminders resume for every deadline that is still ahead. For each one you get the reminder for the window you are in (for example the 14-day reminder), not the ones that would have gone out while paused. Calendar feeds fill up again the next time your calendar app refreshes.
