What is an auto-renewal clause?

An auto-renewal clause is the sentence in a subscription agreement that says the contract renews itself unless you cancel in a specific window. A typical one reads:

“This agreement automatically renews for successive one-year terms unless either party provides written notice of non-renewal at least sixty (60) days prior to the renewal date.”

Read that carefully. The deadline to act is 60 days before the renewal, not the renewal date. If your renewal is March 15, your real decision deadline is January 14.

These clauses are common in B2B SaaS and easy to miss because they are buried in order forms and terms, not in the monthly receipt. By the time a normal reminder says “your renewal is in 30 days,” you may already be locked in.

QuietBill stores this clause verbatim (never paraphrased, for legal accuracy) and uses it to calculate the deadline that actually matters.
