What happens after a deadline passes

How QuietBill moves renewal dates and deadlines on to the next term, and what to check when it cannot.

Auto-renewing contracts renew whether or not you remember them, so QuietBill moves their dates forward on its own. You do not need to add a new document for every term.

What QuietBill does automatically

Every hour, QuietBill:

  1. Moves past renewal dates forward by whole billing cycles. An annual contract that renewed on 1 March 2027 now renews on 1 March 2028.
  2. Ends tracked software trials whose end date has passed. Their status changes from Trialing to Active.
  3. Recalculates passed deadlines for the next renewal whose notice window is still open.

The new deadline then gets the usual reminders, starting 60 days before it. A We’re keeping it decision applied only to the old deadline, so it does not carry over.

When dates cannot move on their own

If the billing Cycle is Unknown, QuietBill cannot tell when the next renewal is. The dates stay where they are and you see one of these:

  • renewal date passed or notice window passed on the Subscriptions page,
  • a Window passed badge in the cancellation assistant.

To fix it, open the subscription, set Cycle and Next renewal in the Details panel, and click Save.

When the contract changed at renewal

If the renewal came with new terms (a different term length, price or notice period), upload the new order form or renewal email, or edit the subscription by hand. Moving dates forward assumes the terms stayed the same.

If you missed a deadline

The renewal will usually bill as the contract says. Contact the vendor anyway: you can still give notice for the following term, and the cancellation assistant can draft it. QuietBill already shows the next deadline.
